Mom and Dad have a home office downstairs from their living area. This office was off limits for four year old Eric. One day Eric came quietly down the stairs to see if dad would play with him. Usually Dad became frustrated when Eric interrupted as he worked very hard and would put him off for a few minutes while he finished what he was doing.
This time however, Dad immediately put his work aside and said “Sure Eric, I’d love to play with you!” The shock and delight on Eric’s face said it all to his father. Father and son had a great time and Dad felt very close to his son, realizing how much these special times meant to Eric. When it was time for Dad to get back to work, Eric was very cooperative and Dad was able to work in peace and with the confidence he had tended his child’s needs first. That was a great gift to your son, Dad!
